Boeing Said To Be Hit By Computer Virus Ransomware Attack – United States

Boeing

Boeing Co. has been hit by a computer virus, raising fears that some manufacturing equipment used to build its 787 Dreamliner and 777 wide-body jets could be crippled, the Seattle Times reported. The plane maker acknowledged a cyberattack while saying “a number of reported statements on this are overstated and inaccurate.” Aircraft production and deliveries aren’t affected, the company said in an emailed statement. “Our cybersecurity operations center detected a limited intrusion of malware that affected a small number of systems,” Linda Mills, a spokeswoman for the company, said in the statement. “Remediations were applied and this is not a production and delivery issue.” The assembly lines potentially affected by the ransomware attack include those of Boeing’s 787 facility in North Charleston, S.C., and the 777, the Seattle Times said. The 777 is made in Everett, Wash.

TSA Found .38 Special during Newark Airport Security Screening – New Jersey, United States

Luggage

Two people were arrested with guns at Newark Liberty International Airport last week, officials said. Both passengers had a weapon in their carry-on, which Transportation Security Administration officers found at check-points, according to a statement released Tuesday. Seven people have now been arrested at Newark Liberty with guns this year. There were six gun arrests in all of 2017, the TSA said. On Saturday, a Barto, Pennsylvania, man told TSA officers he forgot his .38 special handgun was in his bag when it was detected while going through an X-ray machine, authorities said. The gun was loaded with five hollow-point bullets, officials said. He faces state weapons charges as well as a federal civil penalty of around $3,900.

In Tandem, US, Foreign Law Enforcement Agencies Target Corporate Corruption

Corporate Boardroom

U.S. authorities are beefing up enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the U.S. anti-foreign bribery law, bringing an ever larger number of corporate corruption cases in close coordination with foreign law enforcement agencies. In the last two years, the U.S. Justice Department and U.S. the Securities and Exchange Commission, the two agencies responsible for implementing the law, working with foreign law enforcement agencies, have brought enforcement actions against eight multinational companies, more than the previous years combined, according to Justice Department officials. The surge is part of a growing trend in the war on corporate graft. Prior to 2016, there had been only two such cases. But as more countries have adopted anti-foreign bribery laws in recent years and cooperation between international law enforcement authorities has increased, so too have coordinated prosecutions of corporate corruption. “I think that speaks both to the level of cooperation that we’re getting from other countries but also speaks to the engagement of foreign countries now,” a Justice Department official said.
