Joan Bish Walks for Heart Health in Phoenix

Match-it!The G4S Match it! program encourages G4S employees to become involved in their local communities by matching the money they raise for a charity, up to $500.

Since the regional program launch in 2013, G4S has contributed $35,516 to various charities supported by employees. The most-recent match went to the American Heart Association on behalf of Joan Bish, Regional Sales Support Manager for the Secure Solutions (USA) Phoenix office.

Joan rallied a team of G4S employees to participate in the AHA’s Heart Walk that took place April 7. By taking to social media and reaching out to friends and family for donations, the team raised $650. Joan then submitted a Match it! application and was awarded an additional $500, nearly doubling the amount raised for the AHA.

“At the end of last year, my mom developed an infection that went into her blood stream and attacked her heart. It resulted in her going into Atrial Fibrillation for an extended period, which led to congestive heart failure,” Bish said. “I almost lost my mom twice within the space of two weeks. But, through amazing medical care, dietary changes and, most importantly, knowledge and education, my mom was able to fight back, improve and join me at the Heart Walk, as she is my main reason for being there.”

The funds raised by the Phoenix Heart Walk allow the AHA to run the Halle Heart Children’s Museum and support various programs, including heart-healthy cooking, blood pressure screening, CPR classes and several academic research projects.
