Health Department To Call For Marijuana Legalization – New York, United States

A long-awaited report on marijuana will recommend that New York legalizes the drug, the state’s top health official said Monday. While the report has not yet been finalized, Health Commissioner Howard Zucker said its authors reached their conclusion after a thorough review of the legal, medical and social implications of legalization. “We looked at the pros, we looked at the cons,” Zucker told reporters at an appearance in Brooklyn. “When we were done we realized that the pros outweighed the cons.” Zucker’s boss, Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, has long expressed concerns about legalization, last year calling marijuana a “gateway drug.” He has since softened his stance and ordered the legalization study earlier this year amid pressure from legalization supporters, including his Democratic primary opponent, “Sex and the City” star Cynthia Nixon. Do not count on legal weed in the Big Apple just yet, however. Lawmakers are scheduled to adjourn for the year this week, suggesting it will be 2019 at the earliest before legalization is considered in Albany.

Cybercriminal Entrepreneurs Using A Sliding Pay Scale To Sell Herorat Malware – Worldwide

Cybercriminals are marketing and selling the Android RAT HeroRat on Telegram using a good, better and best sales model, despite the fact the source code is available for free. Researchers at ESET came across the RAT malware behind HeroRat while studying the previously known malware types IRRAT and TeleRAT. The new malware is believed to have been spreading in the wild since August 2017, but in March 2018 the actors behind it made the source code available for free on various Telegram hacking channels. This has led to hundreds of variants popping up, including the one nicknamed HeroRat The malicious actors/entrepreneurs are using the well-known retail practice of offering different levels of HeroRat functionality with the more expensive giving the purchaser greater control over any compromised devices. In this case, interested parties can buy the bronze, silver and gold models for $25, $50 and $100, respectively or they can opt to purchase the source code itself for $650. This despite the fact the malware can be had for free.

Joshua Schulte, a former CIA employee, has been charged with leaking classified information, the Justice Department announced on Monday. A grand jury indicted Schulte on a series of charges, including illegal gathering of national defense information and illegal transmission of unlawfully possessed national defense information. According to the indictment, Schulte, 29, obtained classified information in 2016 related to US intelligence-gathering capabilities and then provided that information to an organization that “purports to publicly disseminate classified, sensitive, and confidential information.” The organization is not named in the charging document and is referred to only as “Organization-1.” A number of media outlets, including The New York Times and Politico, identified the organization as WikiLeaks on Monday. A Justice Department prosecutor revealed in a January court session in New York that a former CIA employee had been suspected of leaking classified documents to WikiLeaks, which posted thousands of pages of CIA documents with secret cyber tools in March 2017.
