TSA PreCheck Set For Stricter Policing Under House-Approved Bill – United States

People in Airport

A bill designed to speed more Americans through airport security lines while cracking down on the oversight of those fast lanes passed the House Sept. 4. The bipartisan legislation, H.R. 6265, passed the House on a voice vote. Under the legislation, only passengers who have passed background checks and paid fees to be part of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) PreCheck program or another trusted traveler program would be eligible to use expedited airport security screening lines. The legislation’s sponsor, Rep. John Katko (R-N.Y.), has said low enrollment in the PreCheck program and increasing numbers of travelers have led the agency to shepherd regular passengers the agency has identified as low-risk through the quicker lines. White-Hats Go Rogue, Attack Financial Institutions – Worldwide

Financial

Hackers rooted in the white-hat part of the business moonlight as bank robbers, pouring their knowledge and skills into creating and modifying malware that allows them to infiltrate financial institutions. The group is believed to have only two members and shows perseverance as well as the ability to learn from its own failures. According to a report shared with BleepingComputer by international cybersecurity company Group-IB, the newest financially-motivated group on the market has a Developer and an Operator, each playing well-defined roles. The name they received from the researchers is Silence. The Developer is in charge of building attack tools and customizing utilities employed by other money-driven cybercriminals. This betrays a highly qualified reverse engineer and access to malware samples typically available in private caches of security companies. The other member of the group is the Operator, who appears to be a seasoned penetration tester.

US Warns Nicaragua Is Following Path Of Syria And Venezuela – Nicaragua and The United States

Nicaragua Flag

The United States warned the Security Council on Wednesday that Nicaragua is heading down the path that led to conflict in Syria and a crisis in Venezuela that has spilled into the region — but Russia, China and Bolivia said Nicaragua doesn’t pose an international threat and the U.N. should butt out. The sharp exchanges took place at the first Security Council meeting called by U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley, the current council president, to address what the U.N. says is the government’s violent repression of student and opposition protests that have killed over 300 people since mid-April and led thousands to flee the country. “With each passing day Nicaragua travels further down a familiar path. It is a path that Syria has taken. It is a path that Venezuela has taken,” Haley said. She said Nicaragua’s President Daniel Ortega and Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro “are cut from the same corrupt cloth … And they are both dictators who live in fear of their own people.”
