TSA Expands Facial Recognition To Automate Bag Drop, ID Verification, And Flight Boarding – United States

The TSA released its proposal to expand facial recognition on Monday. The program outlines the administration’s intended proliferation of facial recognition across U.S. airports later this month between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Delta Air Lines, the TSA, and Customs and Border Protection. They will collaborate to launch the world’s first biometric terminal using facial recognition to automate the entire travel experience, from self-service bag drop to ID verification and boarding an airplane. Its “Biometrics Roadmap for Aviation Security and the Passenger Experience” is an effort to increase security, travel efficiency, and convenience. According to the TSA, the plan is rooted in working with the CBP agency using biometrics on international travelers; enhancing the travel experience for TSA Pre members via facial recognition; expanding biometrics to additional domestic travelers; and developing a cohesive infrastructure to actually process and support the requisite biometric technology and data.

U.S. Opposed To Koreas’ No-Fly Zone Border Plan – Korean Peninsula and the United States

The United States opposes a plan by South and North Korea to set up a no-fly zone over their heavily fortified border, the latest sign of a rift between Seoul and its top ally, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. Washington and Seoul both publicly insist they are on the same page about dealing with Pyongyang. But behind the scenes, there are growing signs of disagreement as South and North Korea forge ahead with plans to defuse military tensions and rebuild economic ties. The military accord, sealed during last month’s summit in Pyongyang, is one of the most concrete agreements between the neighbors this year. But U.S. officials have raised concerns that it could undermine defense readiness and comes without substantial progress on denuclearization. The pact includes a halt in “all hostile acts,” a no-fly zone around the border and a gradual removal of landmines and guard posts within the Demilitarised Zone.

McAfee Discovers Cyber Espionage Campaign from Chinese Hacking Group – Worldwide

McAfee, the device-to-cloud cybersecurity company, today at MPOWER 2018 released a report announcing the discovery of a new cyber espionage campaign targeting South Korea, the United States and Canada. The new campaign uses a data reconnaissance implant last used in 2010 by the hacker group APT1, or Comment Crew, a Chinese military-affiliated group accused of launching cyber-attacks on more than 141 U.S. companies from 2006 to 2010. The actors of this new campaign have not been identified; however, they reused code from implants seen last in 2010 by Comment Crew, which conducted offensive cyber operations against the U.S. dubbed Operation Seasalt. The new campaign, which McAfee has named Operation Oceansalt, is based on its similarity to Seasalt. The report, “,” suggests that the development of the Oceansalt implant would not have been possible unless the actors behind it had direct access to Comment Crew’s 2010 Seasalt source code.
