McAfee CTO Raises Concerns About Election Cyber Security – United States

Cyber security concerns around voting should be around the processes involved rather than just the electronic equipment used, according to Steve Grobman, senior vice-president and chief technology officer at security firm McAfee. Underlining this issue, he discussed a recent discovery by McAfee of a “big gap” in the security of the way US local jurisdictions communicate with their constituencies. Because US elections are decentralized, being run at a state and local level rather than at a federal level, with every state and locality choosing how to do things, there is very little uniformity. “We have found two big issues with the way local jurisdiction communicate with their constituencies,” said Grobman. Bombardier Sues Mitsubishi Claiming Theft Of Trade Secrets – United States

Shares in Mitsubishi Heavy Industries fell more than 2 percent on Monday after Bombardier accused former employees of passing along trade secrets to aid the Japanese group’s regional jet program. In a lawsuit filed in a federal court in Seattle late on Friday, the Canadian plane maker said Mitsubishi’s aircraft unit and its US partner AeroTEC had hired at least 92 employees from Bombardier as the Japanese company struggled with problems and delays in developing its Mitsubishi Regional Jet. Bombardier accused several of those former employees of misappropriating confidential documents and data related to what it described as “an incredibly complex” certification process for new aircraft in the US and Canada. “The corporate defendants hired these individuals to assist in their MRJ certification efforts, and together the defendants knowingly used Bombardier’s trade secrets in an attempt to fast-track the MRJ certification,” Bombardier said in the lawsuit.

U.S. Will Build Up Nuclear Arsenal After Nixing Landmark Weapons Treaty With Russia

President Donald Trump said Monday he would build up America’s nuclear arsenal in response to what he portrayed as growing threats from Russia and China. “Until people come to their senses, we will build it up,” Trump said in reference to U.S. nuclear weapons capacity. “We have more money than anybody else by far.” Trump also reiterated his intention to withdraw from a landmark nuclear weapons treaty with Russia, which he accused of violating the pact. “I’m terminating the agreement,” Trump told reporters before leaving for a campaign rally in Texas. “Russia has not adhered to the agreement. This should have been done years ago.” Trump first announced plans to withdraw from the three-decades-old accord, commonly referred to as the INF Treaty, during a campaign rally over the weekend.
