WTTC To Coordinate Biometric Travel Pilots – Worldwide

Passengers will be able to move more efficiently, faster and securely through every part of the travel experience after the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), the body which represents the global private sector for Travel & Tourism announced a series of pilot schemes to test the use of biometric technology throughout the end-to-end passenger journey. In first half of 2019 passengers will be able to trial the application of biometric technology at every stage of the travel process – from the point of booking, check-in, through airports, airline boarding, border management, car hire, hotel, cruise and during the journey. In a series of pilot schemes being facilitated by WTTC, under its Seamless Traveler Journey initiative, representatives from several industries within the Travel & Tourism sector, such as airlines, airports, hospitality, cruise, car rental, and tour operators, will be able to jointly test different technologies that interconnect and work to improve the experience of the traveler.

Military Cyber Teams On Standby For Elections – United States

The Homeland Security and Defense Departments don’t expect a significant cyber-attack on next week’s elections. But both agencies are eager to avoid a repeat of 2016, so just in case, military Cyber Protection Teams are on standby and able to respond “within hours,” a senior Pentagon official told reporters. “Back in the spring, we were challenged with, are we doing enough, and should we be doing more?” said the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber Policy, retired Maj. Gen. Edwin Wilson, referring to high-profile hearings and media coverage questioning the Trump Administration’s lack of preparations. “That’s why we’ve stepped in to partner with DHS. So we asked them where they had gaps.” “We haven’t deployed anyone, just to be clear,” Wilson said. “We’ll have a traditional prepare-to-deploy order, (and) the members and teams are on recall ready to go within hours.”

DHS Rolls Out Supply Chain Task Force – United States

The Department of Homeland Security announced the formation of a new task force focused on supply chain threats to information and communications technology. According to a release by DHS, the task force will develop recommendations for industry to identify and mitigate global supply chain risks for technology and communications products that often rely on multiple layers of contractors and subcontractors for different parts and components. The agency is particularly worried about nation states targeting companies deep in the ICT supply chain and then “swimming upstream” to gain access to sensitive data and intellectual property. “The nature of supply chain threats, because they can encompass a product’s entire life cycle and often involve hardware, make them particularly challenging to defend against,” said Christopher Krebs, undersecretary of the National Protection and Programs Directorate at DHS.
